2004 saw the opening of a new Contemporary Art Space
in Makati City— THEO Gallery, opened its inaugural
exhibition year with Louie Cordero’s “If
Assholes Could Fly, This Place Would Be An Airport”.
It was followed by a steady stream of well-received
month-long exhibition of works by promising young artists
like Jayson Oliveria <Pressure Points>, (who together
with Cordero and Geraldine Javier received the Ateneo
Art Award for 2004), Jed Escueta and Jet Melencio <Horizontal
Fall> Mm Yu <On Thought Experiments> as well
as more established artists like Alfredo Juan Aquilizan
<Inventory> and Juan Alcazaren <Crime &
Decoration>. For 2005, THEO Gallery brings in Geraldine
Javier’s “Sea Whores”, a colorful
series of small mixed media paintings based on images
of underwater creatures. The rest of the year proves
to be just as exciting and promising with upcoming exhibitions
like the much-anticipated reunion show of the artists
behind the Surrounded By Water Alternative Art Space
<on March> and a Group Show curated Mr. Roberto
Chabet <this February>. We are also in the process
of finalizing a pair of International Projects that
would bring to THEO young artists and their works from
the US and Thailand, organized with the help by Artist
Jordin Isip and Bangkok University Gallery’s Curator
Art Fongsmut, respectively. THEO Gallery is managed
by Gary-Ross PASTRANA, a practicing artist and a graduate
of the UP College of Fine Arts (major in painting) in
2000. |
