Revolver
Productions is an offshoot of the weekly music
reviews column in the Life & Times section
of the Manila Times (every Saturday) which in
turn was named after one of The Beatles’
best albums. Inspired by Moby’s Area:One
(which had the likes of Nelly Furtado, Moby,
Incubus, Missy Elliot and OutKast, among others)
and local underground music productions such
as Admit One and Play4Serve, Revolver aims to
bring a diverse, eclectic and dynamic line-up
of performers under one roof every month. Revolver
Productions aims to give a show that’s
both educational but still rockin’ fun
on any given night.
Immensely
talented bands such as 6CycleMind, Agaw Agimat,
Bagetsafonik, Ciudad, Death by Tampon, Giniling
Festival, Ginseng, Ledge, Maple Syrup, The Purplechickens,
Radioactive Sago Project, Sushi Box, Switch
and Twisted Halo have already graced Revolver
Productions.
Revolver’s
roster of “semi-mainstays” include
the ff. artists:
1.
Pedicab – The very first
band that ever played in Revolver. This band
composed of Jason Caballa (Twisted Halo, Fatal
Posporos, Blast Ople, If Disco Is A Crime) on
guitars, Diego Mapa (Monsterbot, Cambio) on
lead vocals, Mike Dizon (Sandwich, Teeth) on
drums, Raimund Marasigan (Sandwich, Squid 9,
Cambio, SVC) on keyboards/keyboard bass and
director RA Rivera on psychedelic visuals. You’ll
find traces of Franz Ferdinand and garage rock
bands such as The Rapture, The Hives and The
Strokes in their music without losing that Filipino
pop appeal. Yes, they're a "the" band
without the "the." Proof that rock
music was also created for the dance floor.
You can join the Pedicab Army online by joining
their mailing list: pedicab-padyak@yahoogroups.com.
2.
Sun Valley Crew (SVC) - Nearly
a decade after Sun Valley Crew's debut, they
now boast of an independent album entitled It's
All Natural. Whether or not you're into hip-hop
music, watching Sun Valley Crew perform live
is always blast. The rappers have now bolstered
its ranks with a rotating live band line-up
and a gritty soul singer Their music infects
the audience with a distinctive and original
groove that is perfectly executed. Their music
has elements of jazz, soul, bossanova, musical
improvisation, rock & what have you. You
can call it whatever you want, but for this
tight-ass crew, its still hip-hop.
3
. Wolfmann - Wolfmann is all
about love, hate, aggression, oppression, disillusionment,
abuse, confusion, optimism. Multiple personalities
and organized chaos are bottled in his own brand
of breakbeat electronica. Counting Crystal Method
and Prodigy among his influences, Wolfmann's
synth obras are assembled by electric notes,
sharp samples and funk beats. He is one of the
local music scene’s first electronica
artists that have bridged electronic music to
the mainstream.
